Name Explanation
1 In first place it's the FOX comedy The Simpsons. This dysfunctional Springfield family always seem to get themselves in trouble.
2 That 70's Show is at number 2. Set in a Wisconsin basement, the teenage characters never respect their parent's authority.
3 We give third place to Family Guy Peter Griffin and the animated adventures of a new generation of Simpsons.
4 Gripping crime drama hits number four on our list with Law and Order: SVU: Special Victims Unit. Meanwhile CSI takes 7 and 9.
5 The hilarious classic British comedy Mr Bean, played by the talented Rowan Atkinson from Blackadder fame, just makes it in the top 5.

THE SHMEJ FIVE - Most international spin-offs

1. Big Brother was started in the Netherlands, and international spin-offs have been created in USA, Britain, Germany, Australia, Norway, Portugal, Denmark, Switzerland, Malaysia, Greece, Belgium, China and Sweden. What a lot of housemates!

2. Shmej rated Idol the number 1 show in South Africa when in started in 2002, but little did we know this British-created interactive show that took ordinary people and made them pop superstars would also have spin-offs in USA, Netherlands, Australia, Canada, Germany, Belgium and New Zealand.

3. Who Wants to be a Millionaire has screened in 100 countries, was started in Britain, and has spin-offs in America, Australia, Philippines, India and Hong Kong. A video game has also been created.

4. British game show The Weakest Link extended to versions in USA, Australia, Greece, Belgium, Ireland, New Zealand, Philippines, Hong Kong and Israel and lead to spin-offs in USA and Britain. A video game has also been created.

5. Long-running US quiz show The Price is Right has also been produced in Britain, Australia and Israel. It began in 1956 and a new US version was created in 1972.
