General Information

A painting medium refers to the material used by an artist to complete a work of art, generally referring to the type of paint, i.e. oil, acrylic, egg tempera, etc. The term can also be used to reference the technique used by the painter.

A mixed media artist is one who uses a combination of materials or multiple “mediums” in the completion of one painting, while a multiple media artist is one who is proficient in more than one painting medium, i.e. watercolor, oil or acrylic.
