Synopsis

After creating the character in stand-up comedy acts, Tim Taylor stars as a cable TV show host of the same name in Home Improvement, a family sitcom with more international following than the very shows it satirizes. Tim “the Tool Man” Taylor is an incapable and clumsy presenter of a DIY show, and he has almost as much trouble living life behind the camera.

Tim, a committed husband and father of three boys, sees himself as a symbol for masculinity and spends his free time working on his hot rod car, visiting his local hardware store, teasing the mother of his co-host Al for her excessive weight or expressing himself in large and apparently masculine grunts.

Patricia Richardson stars as Tim’s dedicated and long-suffering wife who always accepts his masculine passions, but has a much harder time accepting his clumsiness. To discourage further destruction from another of his dramatic ideas, she once pointed out that whenever he decides to fix something, "the fire department show’s up!"

Although he is the wife of a psychiatrist, he usually seeks guidance from his neighbour Wilson. In his wise answers, the kind neighbour often draws comparisons to mysterious cultural traditions. Wilson is as mysterious as the similes he expresses and he only reveals his dark red lips on the sitcom's final episode.
