Shine originated from Freedom TV, a small Christchurch Christian channel introduced due to a growing demand for Christain programming. The channel combined forces with UCB, Alpha Video Trust and Dove Ministries to make programs in Auckland.
In June 2002 the channel was contracted to supply a 24-hour Christian channel to Sky Digital. By August the channel became part of the Rhema Broadcasting Group. On December 1 Shine TV was launched nationally on Sky Digital Channel 99.
Shine is included in all Sky Digital packages and reaches estimated potential audience of 421,000 homes.
