Title: Goldstein series
Country: New Zealand
This advertisement features a man named Ira Goldstein working for a large American bank who is sent to go and find out why ASB Bank is supposedly the best bank in the world. He must report on his mobile phone to his boss, Mr Lincoln, on the latest home loan rates and other banking features offered by ASB Bank.
The "Goldstein" advertisements have caused controversy among Jews in New Zealand who feel Goldstein, a Jewish American, provides a bad image of Jews. Goldstein spends huge amounts of the bank's money starting a business, buying a house and purchasing property to investigate how good ASB Bank really is, only to fall in love with an ASB Bank teller.
One advertisement of the series:
Mr Lincoln, CEO of an American bank – “Goldstein, go to New Zealand and find out what makes that bank different!”
Ira Goldstein – “Sir, I’m disguised as a farmer. I think I have him fooled.”
Ira – “Nice flock of cows.”
Farmer – “Herd of cows.”
Ira – “Yes I have, heard of chickens?”
