Description

The Lion King, which originally came to Broadway on November 13, 1997 at the New Amsterdam Theatre, is based on the Disney feature animated film of the same name. Composers Tim Rice and Elton John teamed up to write additional songs for the musical that are not in the film. The musical runs approximately two hours and forty-five minutes and has had almost two thousand performances thus far in its run.

Director Julie Taymor brought the animated animals from the film to life on the stage through very dramatic and award-winning set design, costume design, and choreography.
