Les Misérables is based on the Victor Hugo novel of the same name and was originally conceived for the stage by Claude-Michel Schönberg and Alain Boublil. Les Misérables takes place during the French revolution and depicts the life of Jean Valjean, who has been in jail for nineteen years for stealing a loaf of bread. After his release, Valjean is hunted down by the police inspector named Javert for breaking his parole. In the end, Javert and Jean Valjean have a confrontation in the sewers of Paris, a confronation from which only one of them will walk away. Les Miserables has become the second longest running musical in history.
Les Misérables has been translated into 20 different languages: English, Japanese, Hebrew, Hungarian, Icelandic, Norwegian, German, Polish, Swedish, Dutch, Danish, French, Czech, Castillian, Mauritian Creole, Flemish, Finnish, Argentinian, Portugese and Estonian.
