Description

Jesus Christ Superstar tells the story of the last seven days of Jesus Christ: from his entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday through to his death on the cross at the hands of Pontius Pilate. The production originally started out as only a record because producers were too afraid to take on such a high-risk project. However, when Jesus Christ Superstar premiered at Mark Hellinger Theatre in New York City, New York on October 12, 1971, it was an instant success and ran for seven hundred and twenty performances. There have been two video productions made; one in 1973 and the other in 2001.
