Definition

A tempo translates to "in time." It also refers to the original set tempo of the piece. This is usually seen after a transition passage, or after a solo where the overall feel and rhythm of the song has changed. A tempo generally signifies the end of such a passage, or a reprise of the main theme of the piece.
