Handbells are usually played in a group or in a choir. Each bell has one note, or pitch that sounds when rung. In a handbell choir, each member might be responsible for several bells, each tuned to a different pitch, during a performance. When a certain note is required, the played responsible for that handbell would ring his bell.
Like the Organ, much of the handbell repertoire is written for church or religious services.
