I Got Rhythm is a jazzy, bright, light-hearted song that, with some difficulty I admit, attempt to put people in a good mood. It describes the joy felt by a woman after finding the man of her dreams. She creates a sense of joy and appreciation for her surroundings, including the chirping bees, sunny days and colourful ‘daisies in green pastures.’
The song uses rhyme well - ‘sigh, buy’ - ‘day, way’ - to imitate and improve sound throughout the song. There is parallel construction with ‘I got rhythm, I got music’ and other such examples which successfully capture attention and add character to the song. The caesura on line 11 separates the two related ideas well, in combination with the great rhythm - ‘Old man trouble, I don’t mind him...’ The following line also has a great example of rhythm, which successfully improves the sound in the song - ‘You won’t find him round my door.’
