The band Rammstein was founded in Germany in 1993. They took their name from the town of Ramstein, in which 3 Italian planes crashed into each other killing 80 people at a United States Air Force air show in 1988. The band has built a loyal following in both Europe and North America due to their loud, energetic music and shows filled with pyrotechnics.
Rammstein's debut album, Herzeleid (Heartache), was released in Germany and the United States in 1996. Their second album, Sehnsucht (Longing), was released in Germany in November 1997 where it debuted at number one on German rock charts. Sehnsucht was released in United States in February of 1998.
In 1999, the band took some criticism and bad publicity when news was published that the two teenagers involved in the Columbine high school shooting in Littleton, Colorado had expressed admiration for their music. Later that same year, Rammstein released their live album, Live Aus Berlin (Live in Berlin).
Their most recent album, Mutter (Mother), was released in September of 2001.
