The Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award is an Oscar statuette.
Nominations for the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award are made at a special meeting of the Board of Governors. Following completion of the nominations for this award, a secret ballot is taken on which the Governors vote for the nominee of their preference. The nominee receiving the highest numerical score is considered further in a second secret ballot to determine if this award shall be given. If the candidate receives a vote of two-thirds of the Governors present, he or she shall receive the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award.
Consideration for this award is limited to an "individual in the motion picture industry whose humanitarian efforts have brought credit to the industry."
