Description

Best Picture is one of the original award categories and has been awarded each year since 1927. However, until the 1932-33 award year, it was named "Best Production."

In the first year of the awards, there were two Best Picture winners: "Wings"(1927/8) for Best Production and "Sunrise"(1927) for Unique and Artistic Picture, a category that was immediately dropped. Obviously, the only silent film to win Best Picture was "Wings".
