Biographical Material

Robert Jordan is the pseudonym of Charleston resident and author James Oliver Rigney, Jr. Jordan is best known for the fantasy series The Wheel of Time, an epic whose first volume, The Eye of the World, was published by Tor Books in 1996. Prior to the well-known Wheel of Time books, Jordan wrote the Conan Chronicles, the Fallon series, the Western novel Cheyenne Raiders under the pen name Jackson O'Reilly, and theater criticism under the pen name Chang Lung.

Jordan is married to one-time Tor Books editor Harriet McDougall Rigney, who still edits his writing. The Rigneys live in a historic house in Charleston, which Harriet, according to Tor Books founder Tom Doherty, inherited.
