Hans Christian Anderson was born on April 2, 1805.
His family was poor and his father a depressed shoemaker.
His father father died when he was 11 years old.
At the age of 14 he ran away to Copenhagen.
Anderson is argueably Denmark's most famous author.
Wrote as many as 350 stories.
Hans Anderson died on August 4, 1875.
Denmark's people always celebrate his birthday with a party called "Odin Story Day".
The Anderson home in Odense is now a museum, and thousands of people visit it every year.
