Biography

Jacob Abbott was an educationalist and author. He was born in Hallowell at Maine and educated at Bowdoin College and Andover. He entered the ministry of the Congregational Church.
He wrote religious and related works, mainly for the young.
The Beechnut Tales and Rollo Books are of note and still in circulation.
With his brothers, Gorham D. Abbott and John S.C. Abbott,founded the Abbott's Institution in New York City, a seminary for young ladies.

Brother of John Stevens Cabot Abbott.
