General Information

The genre of fantasy, an artistic genre, refers in particular to stories containing unrealistic creatures and people such as wizards, witches, mermaids, dragons and superheroes. Unlike many genres, fantasy allows the writer to be creative and inventive.

Books in other genres, such as crime, horror or historical fiction, have plots that could actually be possible. They aren’t magical, imaginary and creative like fantasy is. Any book with a magical and unrealistic plot fits only into the fantasy genre.

Fantasy is easily the most popular and common genre of all, and fairy tales are probably the best example. Classic tales like Little Red Riding Hood, The Three Little Pigs and Cinderella continue to be loved by young children worldwide.
