Popeye the Sailor Man is a keen sailor who's love of spinach has given him strong muscles and who can always get out of a difficult situation simply with a can of spinach. Popeye has become a symbol for the promotion of spinach and its health benefits.
Popeye’s greatest foe is the evil Bluto, and a conflict rages between the two for the love of Olive Oyl. When it looks like Bluto is winning through his sneaky moves, Popeye comes back after gulping down a mouthful of spinach.
The cartoon features the voices of William Costello, Mae Questel, Jackson Beck, Jack Mercer and others.
