The setting of Chobits introduces us to a future Japan in which Personal Computers or Persocons come in an attractive female human form. The main character, Hideki Motosuwa, is attending Cram school to help him gain entrance to college. He is poor and unable to afford a Persocon of his own, but due to what seems to be a stroke of luck he finds a functional one lying in a trash heap.
